BCC Film Student Works on Ava DuVernay’s Netflix Documentary
Through the Communication Arts and Sciences’ Media and Digital Film Production program, student Nia Simmons had the opportunity to work as a production assistant on Ava DuVernay’s new Netflix documentary – filmed right here on BCC’s campus (in the historic Gould Memorial Library). “Seeing how she worked with her crew was inspiring—she is the first African American woman to direct films with multi-million dollar budgets, and watching her in action motivated me even more to pursue my own dreams of becoming a film director,” Simmons said. “It was one of the best days of my life!”
