  News, President News   •

Director of Public Safety Angel L. IrizarizBronx Community College (BCC) has named Interim Director of Public Safety Angel L. Irizariz to the Director role, effective immediately. With 20+ years of service in CUNY law enforcement, Angel brings deep experience and a strong commitment to working with faculty, staff and students to maintain campus safety and community engagement. His leadership focuses on building trust, connection, and a safe, supportive environment for all.

Angel—who oversees all aspects of campus safety operations—has been promoted continuously throughout his career. He began as a patrol officer at Lehman College, then moved on to John Jay and BCC.

Angel believes his team’s job is to be the steward of the college and get BCC community members to continue viewing the Public Safety team as the guardian of the institution.

BCC officers interact on a daily basis with students, building rapport with the college community and familiarizing themselves with students, faculty and staff by greeting everyone at the gates and engaging in casual conversation. They participate in mental health & crisis intervention training to be able to identify when students are in crisis and provide appropriate resources. Public Safety works closely with Counseling and the CARES team to ensure that students know about resources available to them.

Angel emphasizes the need for the community to continue to work together to maintain campus safety. If members of our community observe a hazardous or unsafe condition, they are encouraged to report it by emailing Public.Safety@bcc.cuny.edu or calling 718-289-5390.
