Olivia Casillas, 2026 SalutatorianA Bronx native and second-generation BCC student, Olivia Casillas, the 2026 Salutatorian, said she chose the College for its affordability and academic offerings, following in her mother’s footsteps.

“I learned early to stay disciplined and take responsibility for my own learning, so the transition to college-level work felt familiar,” said Casillas, who was homeschooled since fifth grade. “That mindset carried me through college – and it can carry anyone through whatever path they choose.”

Casillas began her studies in graphic design before shifting to cybersecurity, citing expanded career opportunities in the field. She has been accepted to John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where she will study computer science and information security.

She completed her degree in two years, taking courses across fall, winter, and summer sessions to stay on track. Casillas credited faculty and the College’s close-knit environment for helping her succeed academically and personally.

In addition to her coursework, she worked throughout her time at BCC at Häagen-Dazs at Cross County Mall in Yonkers, where she served as a shift leader, and also served as an intern with the College’s art gallery. She enjoys drawing and design, interests she hopes to continue incorporating into her future work in technology.

Casillas plans to pursue a combined bachelor’s and master’s pathway, with an interest in cybersecurity and digital forensics.
