BCC President Dr. Larry D. Johnson, Jr. spent time with student-athletes, coaches, and athletics leadership at Ohio Field as the Broncos closed out their regular season home schedule in a day that focused on both competition and community.

The afternoon began with a tribute to the program’s graduating sophomores and a special recognition of Head Coach Adolfo DeJesus for 40 years of service. President Johnson joined students, faculty, and supporters for the ceremony before stepping onto the field to throw a ceremonial first pitch.

“I am deeply appreciative of the commitment demonstrated by our baseball coaches and Athletic Director Dionne Dodson, whose leadership continues to shape an environment where our students are challenged to excel on the field and in the classroom,” Dr. Johnson said. “Moments like these reaffirm that athletics is not separate from the academic mission, it is an extension of it. Through teamwork, accountability, and resilience, our student-athletes are developing the very competencies that will position them for success in life and career.”

The momentum carried beyond the finale. The Broncos went on to win the CUNY Championship for the second consecutive year, defeating Queensborough Community College 12–2 in a six-inning mercy rule victory. The title marks the program’s 14th CUNY championship under Head Coach Adolfo DeJesus. News 12 covered the win, highlighting the team’s resilience despite injuries during the game.
