Crugnola, Charles

Professor Charles Crugnola, is an Adjunct Lecturer in Criminal Justice at Bronx Community College. He began his career in the Department of Social Sciences at BCC in 2016 and is passionate about teaching. He enjoys enabling young minds and passing on his knowledge through the use of learning materials combined with his own experiences. He encourages open discussion in class and demands respect for the opinions of others. His philosophy is:  In life, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and they should be allowed to express that opinion freely. Others should respect that opinion. Life is a learning experience. We learn from each other and our first lesson is to respect the opinions of others.

He graduated, from Southern New Hampshire University with an MBA (Justice Studies concentration). His research interest includes the effects of wrongful convictions on society and the psychological effects of police K9’s on suspects.

He is a retired police detective who served his New Jersey community for 26 years, the last 18 of which was at the rank of Detective. His tenure as a Detective gave him an opportunity to work with law enforcement officers from County, State, and Federal Agencies and with police canines in his role as an Arson Investigator.  Following his retirement from the police department, he worked as the Director of Security and Emergency Preparedness for a large medical center in New Jersey. After 10 years at the medical center, he decided to pursue one of his passions - a career as an Explosive Detection Canine Handler (EDCH) with the country’s largest K9 security firm.  You may have even seen him and one of his three working canines in Manhattan or at Newark Liberty Airport.

In his free time, he enjoys spending a relaxing time with family (both human and canine), continues his passion for working with and training dogs, and reading non-fiction.
