Thomas, Franklin

Franklin Thomas is an Adjunct Lecturer of Criminal Justice in the Social Sciences Department at Bronx Community College, CUNY.  He started teaching at BCC in 2011.  He has been teaching Criminal Justice courses since 2008 at: IONA College, Westchester Community College SUNY and Mercy College. 

He is a retired Police Officer with over twenty years of service at North Castle Police Department, Westchester County NY.  In addition to being a Police Officer he was also: NYS Certified Police Instructor, NYS Certified Breath Analysis Instructor, NYS Certified Instructor Evaluator, NYS Certified Radar Operator/Instructor, Hostage Negotiator and Emergency Medical Technician-B.  He was further trained in Background Investigations, Narcotics Enforcement and Suspicious Death Investigations.  In addition to his patrol duties he lectured at the Zone 5 Westchester County Police Academy and assisted in Arson Investigations. 

His teaching philosophy combines academic knowledge and actual experience in the Criminal Justice System.  He utilizes conversational instruction with a heavy emphasis on developing and nurturing critical thinking in his students. 

Franklin Thomas was born and raised in Suffolk County, NY and still resides there.  He is also a NYS certified Armed Security Officer and has worked assignments at various locations.
