President Johnson Thanks Public Safety Team for its Service at Appreciation Lunch
Says their Voice is Critical in Making Campus Improvements and Retaining Students
An Appreciation Luncheon was held in honor of BCC’s Public Safety team, the individuals who show an unwavering commitment each day to protecting our students, faculty, and staff. Interim Director of Public Safety Angel L. Irizariz gave opening remarks and thanked officers for their professionalism and care in making BCC a secure and welcoming environment for learning and growth.
President Larry D. Johnson, Jr. recognized Public Safety’s contributions and listened to their ideas to continue to keep campus safe and make it more accessible for everyone. “I have your back in making sure you have what you need to support our students,” he said. “I will continue to be a fierce advocate for this campus and for you. Your voice is essential to how we move forward.”
Among the attendees were some new officers, as well as many longtime officers, a handful of which have served CUNY/BCC for more than a decade, including Irizariz, Michael Melendez, Troy Coleman, Ayodele Adenusi, Cazz Rosado, Roy Gumbs and Pedro Soto (whose son Paul also is a member of BCC’s Public Safety team).
Irizariz said his team was grateful to be recognized in this way and that the luncheon supported the Department’s ongoing efforts to further build relationships between BCC Public Safety and the entire college community. Throughout the year BCC Public Safety holds or participates in more than a dozen local outreach events across the community.
