D2L BrightspaceTrainings Scheduled for Spring, 2024

Bronx Community College is preparing to transition from its Blackboard online learning management system to a platform called Brightspace (D2L – Desire to Learn), which is being rolled out CUNY-wide. Extensive training will be held throughout this spring, 2024, and the system will be fully in place for use by all BCC staff, faculty and students by the summer.

“We believe this system will be more user friendly than what we’ve had in the past and will allow for enhanced capabilities around discussion boards, blogs, and testing/grading, as well as ongoing professional learning,” Director of Online Support Albert Robinson said. “Brightspace will provide the opportunity for faculty to have all of their courses’ content online.”

Robinson says that BCC will provide live hands-on training sessions, demonstrations and recorded trainings for approximately 10,000 students, staff and faculty members to learn Brightspace and customize their unique eLearning experience. A Brightspace Training and Help Center will be located at Nichols Hall [NI], Rm 311.

“With the outstanding team we have in place here in the Online Support Department – a team that endured and reinvented itself during Covid – I am confident that the transition to Brightspace will be a smooth one,” Robinson said. He noted that a Transition Team made up of faculty, staff, and administrators has been formed and already proved instrumental in thinking through all aspects of the new system launch.

The Brightspace mobile app, “Pulse”, will be available for course notifications, content and much more. A host of online resources and tutorials can be found on BCC’s new Blackboard to Brightspace Migration webpage (http://www.bcc.cuny.edu/academics/distance-learning/brightspace-transition/) .  Additional information will be provided in the coming months.
