decarbonizingThe BCC Chapter of PSC-CUNY in collaboration with the PSC-CUNY Environmental Justice Working Group and BCC NYPIRG Chapter held a Decarbonization Town Hall Meeting on November 25 in Roscoe Brown to discuss decarbonization efforts within CUNY to meet the mandates of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA).

The goal of CLCPA is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 40% by 2030 and no less than 85% by 2050 (from 1990 levels) and to ensure that at least 70% of the State’s electricity is produced from non-polluting renewable energy sources by 2030. According to the PSC, New York City is currently on track for just 44% renewable electricity generation by 2030.

Professor Peter Kolozi, Prof. Paramita Sen, Prof. Gerard Webber, Ms Donique Spencer (student) and Prof. Neal Phillip organized and led this engaging discussion.
