Planning for BCC’s Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) self-study – an important process that occurs every eight years – began this fall and will continue over the next two years. MSCHE accreditation is recognition that our degrees are high quality, which allows for our students to access federal financial aid and transfer their credits to other accredited institutions.

Recognized for its authority by the U.S. Department of Education, MSCHE is a voluntary, peer-based, non-profit membership organization. Following a lengthy, inclusive and collaborative process BCC’s self-study will culminate with an on-site peer evaluation visit in spring 2027.

“We plan to have the entire BCC community involved in the Middle States self-study process,” said Ray Galinski, Dean of the Office for Institutional Effectiveness. “Input from the whole community is very important to us. We will be inclusive and transparent in our messaging throughout.”

As a member of the Self-Study Steering Committee, Galinski will help manage the comprehensive study. Staff member Sahidha Odige, Director of Academic Affairs and Strategic Operations, and faculty member Seher Atamturktur, Professor of Biological Sciences, have been named Co-Chairs. Additional Steering Committee members have been selected, and Working Group Co-Chairs and responsibilities have been identified.

In January or February of 2025, all BCC community members will be invited to participate in one of seven working groups – one for each of the Commission’s standards. A college-wide kickoff meeting/town hall will be planned for fall 2025.
