Dr. Salvador Salazar holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (2019), an M.A. in Communication from the University of Havana (2009), an M.A. in Asian Studies from the University of Salamanca (2009), and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Havana.
From 2006 to 2014, he served as Professor of History of Communication and the Press at the University of Havana’s School of Communication. Since January 2017, he has been a faculty member at Bronx Community College (CUNY), where he teaches Spanish language and culture courses.
His research examines the history of the press and communication in Latin America, with particular interest in Cuban press history.
He has edited three volumes on the history of Cuban media and is the author of The Cultural Policy of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) Toward Latin America, a study based on five years of archival research on the relationship between Cuban cinema and Latin American cultural politics during the Cuban Revolution.
His most recent book, The Pause: Tales of Immobile Cuba, is a collection of short fiction exploring contemporary Cuban life.
