Dr. Bernard Gantt was appointed the inaugural Vice President of Enrollment Management at Bronx Community College (BCC) in March 2022. This key leadership position was created to directly address the College’s enrollment and retention challenges, as well as their impact on the institution’s budget. Reporting directly to the President, Dr. Gantt leads the College’s comprehensive enrollment strategy with a focus on growth, access, and student success.
Since assuming the role, Dr. Gantt has guided BCC through a period of exceptional enrollment growth in both regular and dual-enrollment programs. His leadership has successfully reversed post-pandemic declines and returned the College to pre-COVID enrollment levels. Through revitalized student outreach, stronger community partnerships, and expanded dual-enrollment initiatives (College Now, Early College, Smart Scholars, FRNYC) and more recently, CUNY Explorers, BCC has significantly increased engagement with local high schools and prospective students.
As Vice President, Dr. Gantt serves as the President’s principal advisor on admissions, enrollment, registration, financial aid, student accounts, and retention. He also oversees all early and pre-college programs and plays an integral role as a member of the President’s Cabinet. His work ensures a cohesive, campus-wide approach to enrollment and retention, unifying efforts across departments under a shared strategic vision.
Dr. Gantt brings more than 25 years of enrollment management experience to the role. He joined BCC in 1998 as Registrar and later served as Associate Dean and then Dean of Enrollment Management from 2001 to 2015. From 2015 to 2022, he served as Dean of Academic Services. Throughout his tenure as the lead for the College’s enrollment strategy, BCC has consistently achieved strong enrollment results, with the most recent gains reinforcing the College’s status as a vital gateway to higher education in the Bronx.
In addition to his administrative leadership, Dr. Gantt founded Men2Men in 2004, a mentoring initiative for Black and Latino male students. Now known as the Male Empowerment Network (MEN), the program is part of the CUNY-wide Black Male Initiative (BMI). He served as Executive Director for over seven years and considers the program one of his most meaningful professional accomplishments.
Dr. Gantt holds a B.S. from Touro College, an M.A. from Teachers College at Columbia University, an M.I.S. from The City College of New York, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University. His prior experience also includes roles at Columbia University, City College, and Medgar Evers College.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Council on Student Development (NCSD), is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), and is an evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Dr. Gantt also continues to mentor students through the CUNY Black Male Initiative.
