Calathes, William

Dr. William Calathes is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Bronx Community College, where he teaches a range of Criminal Justice courses, and a Professor of Criminal Justice at New Jersey City University. He earned a B.A. in Political Science (summa cum laude), an M.A. in Criminal Justice, a J.D., and a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice. A dedicated professor, human rights advocate, attorney, and labor leader, Dr. Calathes has spearheaded educational initiatives in prison systems and served on boards of halfway houses. He has also played a key role in reviewing the United Nations’ International Tribunal for Rwanda and supporting voting rights litigation in Kenya. His research, widely published in peer-reviewed journals, spans criminal justice, law, and human rights, influencing both academia and policy. On the global stage, Dr. Calathes has advised the UAE Council of Elders in the aftermath of 9/11, consulted on UN projects tackling sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and contributed to transitional justice efforts in Colombia. A passionate champion for public higher education, Dr. Calathes is deeply committed to mentoring student activists, fostering future leaders who will continue the fight for justice and human rights around the world.
