Mendez, Rafael

I am a community-oriented psychologist. I teach psychology from a social, developmental perspective. As a social psychologist, I believe there is no separation between psychology (how we experience life) and the social conditions that we live in and with. As a developmentalist, I believe everyone can learn and develop in ways that transform their lives. As a community psychologist, I believe that a college education requires you to be an active participant. I conduct my classes as a collective conversation where everyone can learn and develop. I have helped develop many youth development programs in the Bronx and the Greater NY. As a Puerto Rican from Hunts Point Ave of the South Bronx, a Vietnam War veteran, and a graduate of BCC, I have an affinity with our student body. Fun fact, I was an Honorable Mention All-City baseball player.

Education

I attended Bronx Community College. Graduated with Honors from City College. Received my Master and Ph.D. from Boston University. And was a Clinical Fellow at Havard Medical School.

Courses taught (at BCC)

I have taught Introduction to Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, The Dynamics of Human Motivation, Development thru the Lifespan, & Child Developmental Psychology.
