From the Chair
We are honored that Dr. Jane Kani Edward (Fordham University) will deliver the 2025 Ehrenpreis Lecture on Tuesday, April 1 at 10am in North Hall and Library. Dr. Edward’s lecture is titled “The Cost of Civil Wars: Consequences for Civilians in the Two Sudans.” Please join us.
Registration is underway for Summer and Fall 2025. For Fall, we’re offering special electives in HIS 26 Latinos in the United States, HIS 35 History of Africa, and HIS 51 History of New York City.

In Fall 2025 we offer in person, hybrid and online classes in Modern World History, U.S. History, World Regional Geography, and Philosophy. We are also offering History of Latinos in the United States (HIS 26), History of Africa (HIS 35), and the popular course History of New York City (HIS 51).
The Department of History supports the primary mission of Bronx Community College:

Our faculty teach courses in History (HIS), Geography (GEO), and Philosophy (PHL) that contribute both to transfer curricula and to career programs.

Dr. Raquel Otheguy’s scholarly expertise is the history of education in 19th century Cuba. She is the author of Black Freedom and Education in Nineteenth Century Cuba (University of Florida Press, 2025).
