BCC currently offers the following clinical health programs that lead to professional licensure in New York State contingent upon passing of professional exams and completing the licensure process: Medical Laboratory Technician (AAS), Nuclear Medicine Technology (AAS, Certificate), Nursing (AAS), and Radiologic Technology (AAS).
These accredited BCC programs are designed to lead to licensure in New York State in particular. BCC does not guarantee that these programs lead to licensure outside New York State, as requirements for professional licensure do vary from state to state. Students with plans to seek licensure in these fields outside New York State are encouraged to research licensure requirements on a state-by-state basis. They may also contact the academic program directly for more information or the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Alexander Ott.
For some guidance on how these programs may prepare students for licensure in states other than New York, please see the following:
- Medical Laboratory Technician (AAS)
Program graduates take the medical laboratory technician professional exam offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC). Passing the ASCP BOC exam may qualify students for licensure in states that require licensure of medical laboratory technicians. Students must follow the licensure application process as defined by the state in which they seek licensure. See more information on licensure by state here from the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. - Nuclear Medicine Technology (AAS, Certificate)
Program graduates take the Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMT) professional exams offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). Passing one or both exams may qualify students for licensure in states that require licensure of nuclear medicine technologists. Students must follow the licensure application process as defined by the state in which they seek licensure. For more information on licensure by state, see here from the ARRT. - Nursing (AAS)
Program graduates take the NCLEX-RN professional examination offered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Once licensed in NYS, students can apply for licensure in another state following that state’s process. In some states additional qualifications and documentation are required beyond the NYS licensure. See more information on nursing licensure, including state-specific details, see here from the NCSBN.
- Radiologic Technology (AAS)
Program graduates take the radiologic technology professional exam offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Passing the ARRT exam may qualify students for licensure in states that require licensure of radiologic technologists. Students must follow the licensure application process as defined by the state in which they seek licensure. For more information on licensure by state, see here from the ARRT.
Note that of our programs leading to licensure, only one is offered in online/distance education modality: The Certificate program in Nuclear Medicine Technology. This program is currently available only to New York State residents who meet admission criteria and reside in the clinical site area. BCC is a participating institution in NC-SARA, the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements.
