A nationwide search for the individual who will be the next President of Bronx Community College is underway. Advertisements for the position have appeared in: Chronicle of Higher Education, American Association of Community Colleges, Asians in Higher Education, The New York Times, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, Hispanics in Higher Education, HigherEdJobs.com, Hispanic Outlook, Inside Higher Ed, Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, Women in Higher Education and other outlets.

The University has retained the search firm RPA Inc. to assist our Search Committee. Dana John Cohick, Amanda O’Donnell, and Brenda Wilson-Hale are working with us on this effort and have been recruiting highly qualified candidates who may not respond to advertisements because they are either not actively seeking a new job, or they are concerned about confidentiality. The search consultants and CUNY Executive Search office staff met with various BCC constituent groups in early May. A leadership profile for the search was developed following these conversations and feedback collected through a survey fielded in the spring and summer. Ms. Amirah Cousins Melendez, Executive Associate to the President, has been serving as the college’s search liaison, and has assisted us with setting up meetings and collecting relevant data for the leadership profile.

We are confident that the College will attract a highly qualified pool of individuals. The Search Committee will be reviewing and vetting candidates over this fall semester. Committee members have been asked to pledge total confidentiality, consistent with the paramount need to protect the confidentiality of the individuals involved.

We are ready to kick-off the search for the next permanent president of Bronx Community College (BCC). As a first step, we want to provide an opportunity for the entire BCC community to give its input. Feedback from this survey will be used to identify the college’s current needs and priorities and the characteristics the community is seeking in its next leader.

In addition to the survey, members of the search firm RPA, Inc. who will be assisting us with the search, along with CUNY Executive Search Office staff, will be meeting with BCC’s key constituent stakeholders within the next few weeks. Ms. Amirah Cousins Melendez, Executive Associate to the President, will be serving as the college’s search liaison.

The college is at an exciting juncture. We look forward to recruiting a leader who will continue to move BCC to its next chapter. We thank you in advance for your input.
