The BCC Academic Assessment Council is at the heart of the College’s academic assessment efforts. Established in 2005, the Council is charged with supporting the student learning outcomes assessment processes and for recommending policies and procedures to help facilitate assessments across the institution. Council members, also known as Assessment Coordinators, represent of each of the College’s academic departments, as well as the Library, and the Writing Across the Curriculum and First Year Seminar programs. In addition to serving on the Council, Coordinators are responsible for organizing assessment activities within their respective departments and submitting assessment plans and reports.

The Council’s objectives include implementing the best practices for the assessment of academic programs and CUNY’s general education curriculum (Pathways). Council’s activities include: developing institutional learning outcomes, adopting assessment tools for Gen Ed, recommending improvements for student learning and success, encouraging and fostering collaboration across departments for interdisciplinary partnerships, and supporting re-accreditation efforts with Middle States.
