Online Student Complaint Process

At Bronx Community College, we want all our students to have the best possible educational experience. This includes fully online students, regardless of where they live. The complaint process detailed on this page is in conformity with guidelines from NC-SARA (National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements), of which BCC is a participating institution.

The SARA complaint process applies specifically to consumer protection issues. Examples of such issues include but are not limited to the accuracy of recruitment and marketing materials; job placement data; tuition, fees, and financial aid information; and professional licensure requirements and portability. (For additional information about professional licensure programs, please see our disclosures page here.) SARA policies do not cover complaints related to grades or student conduct violations.

All BCC students, regardless of the modality of their coursework, should first attempt to resolve their complaints using existing internal policies and processes. For more information regarding these policies/processes, and how to file a complaint, please see here.

For online students whose complaints have not been resolved through standard processes, they are encouraged to reach out to our director of online learning, Dr. Jordi Getman-Eraso, to facilitate a resolution. Students may also engage our student ombudsperson, Dr. Stephen Powers.

If a resolution has not been achieved after taking the above steps, students may contact the CUNY Office of Student Advocacy and Referral:

As a final step—should the above not resolve the issue—students may appeal the institutional decision to the SARA State Portal Entity via the New York State Education Department’s Complaint Process within two years of the incident about which the complaint is made:
