Run the Bronx Recap
Bronx Community College (BCC) hosted the 47th Annual Roscoe C. Brown Jr. 10K and 5K Runs, as well as a two-Mile Walk, otherwise known as “Run the Bronx,” on Saturday, May 3 with nearly 2,000 participants convening from the Bronx Borough, State of NY and destinations across the country.
Co-founded in 1978 by the late and distinguished Bronx Community College (BCC) President and Tuskegee Airman Roscoe C. Brown Jr., Run the Bronx is the 2nd oldest footrace in NYC. The run celebrates fitness and wellness in the borough and works towards the goal of improving the health of children and their families in the Bronx, while showcasing the beauty of the University Heights campus. (The Bronx is ranked last – 62nd out of 62 – out of all NY State counties for health, with a 10% diabetes rate and an estimated 85% higher risk of obesity among its residents, compared to Manhattan residents.)
Run the Bronx race routes start and end on BCC’s campus and go through surrounding neighborhoods, including the legendary Grand Concourse. Among our participants this year were 275 middle school students from MS 363. We are grateful to all of our amazing sponsors!
We would like to give special thanks to our sponsors and volunteers:
Bronx Community College cannot host an event like Run the Bronx without the support from great sponsors and volunteers.
Over the years, we have had numerous organizations that have come back year after year to provide a team, take part in the Run Pavilion, and give health as well as financial assistance.
