Expanding Opportunities for Students
Bronx Community College welcomed Kiersten Barnet, Executive Director of the New York Jobs CEO Council, for a productive conversation on increasing opportunities for BCC students.
President Johnson, Dean Jessica Seliger, and Chief of Staff Errol Olton discussed strengthening partnerships that support career readiness and student success.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani Visits the BCC Early Childhood Center
This week we welcomed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to our Early Childhood Center. Our Rising Stars shared their handmade artwork — a tree with heart-shaped leaves — and spent time building, playing, and learning with the Mayor during his visit. 🌳❤️
His time with our students highlights how early learning helps children grow, explore, and thrive.
Doris González Elected BCC Foundation Board Chair
Congratulations to Doris González, long‑time Foundation member and Acting President of the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, who has been elected Board Chair of the Bronx Community College Foundation Board of Directors.
Additional newly elected officers include Luz Rosado, Vice Board Chair; Gina Ugarte, Treasurer; and Alfredo Anguiera, Secretary.
Together, they bring strong leadership in support of BCC students.
BCC congratulates Dr. Diane P. Banks
Congratulations to Dr. Diane P. Banks, Professor in the Allied Health Sciences Department and Program Director of the Medical Laboratory Technician Program.
Dr. Banks was honored by Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, State Senator Jamaal Bailey, NYC Council Member Kevin Riley, and U.S. Congressman Ritchie Torres with four awards for her work educating the Bronx community on the history of Black Americans and their contributions to medical laboratory science.
Meditations on Hair and Beyond: An Exhibition by Jessica Lagunas
The Hall of Fame Gallery presents a Women’s History Month exhibition by Bronx-based artist Jessica Lagunas examining themes of beauty, identity, ritual, and the lived experiences of women through innovative materials including woven hair, hair embroidery, feather collage, and video performance.
On view from March 9 to April 16, 2026 in Bliss Hall, Room 107. Reception on Wednesday, March 11 from 1–3 PM.
