Writing assistance covers nearly all academic subjects and takes place both virtually and in person. Visit BCC’s Writing Center.
Yes. BCC’s Virtual Learning Commons offers tutoring assistance in the STEM areas, including lecture notes, videos, Open Educational Resources (OERs), and simulations tailored to courses in Biology, Chemistry and Math.

You can find tutoring in the Learning Commons. BCC provides extensive support to help students with their academic classes. Instructional support beyond the classroom — both in-person and online — is provided when needed in all subject areas ranging from math, science, and English to writing.

How can I submit missing admissions documents?
The Admissions Office is located in in Loew Hall [LO], Room 224. Admissions can help walk you through the process to make sure you have submitted all necessary documents.
Every student who comes to BCC is assigned a student advisor. Your advisor is a great go-to source for all questions you have about your educational experience and can be instrumental in helping you to overcome obstacles and stay on track. What do I need to do to change my major?
First, make sure to consult with your advisor. Then, you will need to complete this form and submit it to the Registrar’s Office.
Is it too late for me to change my major?
Check with your advisor for guidance on majors. Your advisor will be helpful for this and many other things!
When is it too late to drop a class?

How do I view my academic plan showing required classes?
View the Academic Advising Planning Sheets. Logging on to DegreeWorks using your CUNYfirst credentials will also enable you to keep track of your progress toward your degree.

BCC has so many ways to assist students who are struggling to stay in school due to finances. Through these links, explore the many forms of financial assistance offered to students. If you have a hold on your account, make sure to contact the Bursar’s Office.
How do I apply for FAFSA and TAP?
The FAFSA is the single most important form for you to complete in order to receive financial assistance. You can learn everything you need to know here about how and when to file the form here. FAFSA is used as the basis for both Federal and State grants. You can also receive assistance filing through BCC’s Financial Aid office.
How can I apply for Federal Grants/PELL grants?
First, you must complete the FASFA form. Details on Federal grants (Pell and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) grants, as well as NY State’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), can be found here.
When do I need to renew my financial aid?

How do I get help filling out my financial forms?
See this section for answers to all general Financial Aid questions. You also can visit BCC’s Financial Aid office to receive assistance in-person in filing the FAFSA form.
What scholarships are available to me?
In addition to financial assistance through Federal and State grants, there are many different scholarship opportunities. Are there any opportunities for student employment on campus?
Many work-study opportunities exist on BCC’s campus. When filing your FAFSA, it is important that you check the appropriate box on the FAFSA form to be considered for Federal Work-study job opportunities. You also would benefit from following up personally with the Financial Aid office.
Who do I speak to if I have a Bursars hold on my account?
Several communication efforts will be made throughout this process, including e-mails, phone calls, and letters. Make sure that your contact information in your CUNYfirst account is up to date. Please review the “My Holds” section on the Student Center page of your CUNYfirst account to determine the appropriate collection agency to contact.
How and when do you register for classes? What happens if you are on a waitlist and a semester is about to start? Be in the know on important registration tidbits.
How and when can I register for classes?
BCC uses DegreeWorks as an academic advising tool that identifies courses you have completed and courses you still need to take to complete your degree requirements You can find a step-by-step guide to registering here.
How do I use Schedule Builder/DegreeWorks?
You can log in to DegreeWorks using your CUNY First credentials. Make sure to follow the instructions for using this tool.
DegreeWorks will help you determine the requirements you need to fulfill in order to complete your degree, view individual course grades, cumulative grade-point average (GPA) and major average, view transfer credits, waivers, and exemptions applied toward your degree, and estimate how many semesters it will take you to graduate.
Who do I contact about transfer credits?
It is possible to receive credits for prior learning, including courses taken previously at another college. Visit our page on transfer credit guidelines for more information.

How does the Pass/No Pass option work?
The Pass/No Pass option allows for course-level, pass/no pass grading: An earned letter grade of A, B, C, or D is recorded as a “P” and a failing F grade is recorded as an “NC” (no credit).
With a P grade, you will earn credit for the course, but with no effect on your GPA.
With an NC grade, you will not earn credit, but there is also no effect on your GPA.
What if you are on a waitlist for a class and the semester is about to start?
Unfortunately, you will need to consider an alternative class to take.
