The Academic Success Center (ASC)
The ASC is committed to promoting and delivering consistent high quality academic advising . We do not believe that one size fits all approach when it comes to academic advising ASC subscribes to the philosophy that good academic advising plays an integral role in the teaching and learning process of the institution.
Student Responsibilities:
- Be courteous and plan ahead:
- Monitor your BCC Email regularly and schedule a meeting early with your Academic Success Coach or faculty using BCC Navigate.
- Come to advisement appointments on time and prepared with questions.
- Review your GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS in Degree Works prior to your advisement appointment.
- Be an active participant: Identifying your career/education goals and create an academic plan.
- Be up front: academic and personal integrity go a long way at BCC and beyond.
What to Expect from Advising Teams:
- Be accessible to you for meetings during scheduled appointment or walk-in hours.
- Provide a safe, respectful, and supportive environment that honors confidentiality for advising.
- Assist you in defining your academic, career and personal goals.
- Guidance and support at every step of your journey at BCC.
- Information about all the services on campus.
- Help while you learn and examine who you are and where you want to be.

Fall & Spring Semesters
Mon & Thurs – 9:00 am to 7:00pm
Tues & Wed – 9:00 am to 5:00pm
Friday – 9:00am to 1:00pm
Winter Session, Summer & when classes are not in session
Mon-Thurs – 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Fridays – 9:00am to 1:00 (except for summer Fridays)
Student Responsibilities:
- Be aware of your academic progress and grades on OSSES, Black Board and/or CUNY First
- Be knowledgeable regarding all campus events, workshops and services by monitoring your BCC email.
- Be in constant contact with your professors and advisor about academic or personal problems that may affect you academic goals.
What to Expect from Advising Teams:
- Listen to your Concerns
- Assist you in outlining an academic and career plan that supports your goals
- Clearly explain course selections within your major and degree requirements including transfer options.
- Assist you in understanding BCC policies and procedures.
Student Responsibilities:
- Be knowledgeable of campus policies, procedures and resources.
- Be open for recommendations from advisors, faculty and peer Mentors.
What to Expect from Advising Teams:
- Be empowering by assisting you to become a responsible and independent learner.
- Refer you to other campus services and resources.
