Bronx Community College Early Childhood Center recently hosted a vibrant Art Expo in celebration of NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child, showcasing the creativity of its young learners. This dynamic exhibition featured artwork from children ranging in age from five months to four-years-old, each piece a reflection of the children’s exploration, imagination, and growth. The art displayed a wide variety of themes tied to the learning experiences the children had throughout the year, showing how they make sense of the world around them. Visitors were welcomed into a colorful, interactive space that included Jackson Pollock-inspired splatter paintings, an immersive sensory room, and a collaborative cardboard city created by the three- and four-year-olds. Additional highlights included clothing designs made from recycled materials, a collection of black-and-white photographs taken by the four-year-olds, playful sculptures and paper mâché, and marble paintings from the younger children. One of the most engaging features was the free painting area, where life-sized cardboard cutouts of infants and toddlers were displayed mid-creation, celebrating the joy of process over product. Among the attendees were Dr. Denise Maybank, Vice Chancellor for Student Success at CUNY Central, Dr. Manny Lopez, Vice President of Student Success at BCC, the Deputy Chancellor of Early Childhood Education, Simone Hawkins, and Dr. Steven Powers, a professor of Early Childhood Education at BCC, along with 10 of his students. All were deeply impressed by the children’s work.

At Bronx Community College Early Childhood Center, our mission is to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where infants, toddlers, and preschoolers can thrive. Our center is a dedicated educational institution focused on offering developmentally appropriate early care and education. We create a caring and supportive atmosphere where children learn and develop through age-appropriate activities. Our commitment extends to educating, advocating for, and offering support and expertise that empower and enhance the lives of students, parents, children, our college community, and the broader early childhood community. By supporting the needs of student parents, we contribute to their successful retention and graduation at Bronx Community College.

They Learn While You Learn

Our Early Childhood Center is a nationally accredited state-of-the-art full service facility serving 2 to 5 year old children of students. We provide a creative learning environment where children can learn, play and grow with other children in a group setting. The Center also sponsors the Bronx Community College After School Program which caters to children ages 5 to 12. The After School Program is designed for the children of students attending classes after 4PM. We are licensed by the New York City Department of Health.
