BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION TEAM

Mission
The Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) strives to support a healthy and safe environment for the campus community through collaboration, information collection, risk assessment, and early intervention before a crisis arises.

What is the BIT?
The Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) is a multi-disciplinary collaborative committee of trained professionals that meets as needed to proactively review and respond to reports of student behavior that may pose a threat of self–harm or a threat to the campus community. This committee functions concurrently and not in lieu of other essential units of the college (E.g. The Department of Public Safety), to address student behavioral issues. The BIT’s primary goal is early intervention before a crisis arises.

Members of the Committee offer consultation on how to respond to various concerns, facilitate outreach and check-ins, and provide wrap–around support services.

BIT is not an emergency response team. For emergencies, please contact the Department of Public Safety at 718-289-5911 and/or call 911 (as appropriate).
