Math Start

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Be admitted to Bronx Community College.
  • Take the CUNY Assessment Tests in Reading, Writing and Math.
  • Demonstrate need for skills development in math (only) based on your CUNY Assessment Test Results. Specifically, you must have received non-passing scores in both Math 1 (arithmetic/pre-algebra) and Math 2 (elementary algebra). You must also have passing scores in both reading and writing.
  • Attend an information session where you will learn more about the program, fill out an application and have a one-on-one interview.

Information Sessions:

  • Students must attend an information session before filling out an application for Math Start. Information sessions are held on an ongoing basis.

How to prepare for an information session:

  • Please bring a photo ID and a pen to take notes.
  • Be prepared to discuss your personal commitments and responsibilities outside of school (ie: work schedule, medical appointments, family obligations) and explain how you will adjust your schedule to accommodate for Math Start.
  • Information sessions can take up to two hours.  Latecomers to info sessions will have to re-schedule. Every student is given individual attention to ensure that Math Start is a good fit.
